A$AP Rocky, legally known as Rakim Mayers, is facing serious legal trouble as his trial begins for two felony charges stemming from a 2021 incident in Hollywood. The rapper has declined a plea deal that would have required 180 days in jail, instead opting to go to trial, where a guilty verdict could lead to a sentence of up to 24 years in prison.

Mayers is accused of allegedly firing a semi-automatic firearm twice at Terrell Ephron, a former friend and A$AP Mob member known as A$AP Relli, during a confrontation on November 6, 2021. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has added a special firearm allegation to the charges, citing the potential risk to bystanders.

After pleading not guilty, Mayers was released on bond under a court order to avoid contact with Ephron. Ephron has since filed a civil lawsuit alleging physical and emotional harm caused by the incident, as well as a defamation lawsuit against Mayers and his legal team. Both cases remain unresolved.

The trial's outcome could significantly impact the life and career of the Grammy-nominated rapper, who is also the partner of global superstar Rihanna.
