Business mogul and former lawmaker, Ben Murray-Bruce, has warned of an impending World War III, citing the rise of nuclear weaponry, global instability, and the prevalence of “trigger-happy” leaders as major indicators of a looming global conflict.

In an interview on Tuesday with Dane Waters, a global affairs expert, Murray-Bruce voiced deep concern about the direction of world politics, stating that a third world war was inevitable if current trends persist.

“We’re in big trouble, and as long as we have the kind of leaders we have in the world today, I see World War Three coming, and it’s going to be terrible,” he said during the interview.

However, despite the bleak outlook, the Silverbird Group founder expressed optimism that Africa—especially Nigeria—would be largely untouched by the devastation. According to him, Nigeria’s peaceful diplomacy, non-aggressive foreign policy, and lack of nuclear ambitions place the country in a safe zone, far from the direct path of global military conflict.

“The beauty of World War III is that it’s not going to affect Africa. Africa will be spared. You guys are going to fight all across the world, but we are going to be safe in Nigeria,” he stated.

Murray-Bruce emphasized Nigeria’s neutrality and strong regional alliances as key factors that would insulate the country from the fallout of a global war. “Nobody is going to be fighting in Nigeria because we have no territorial ambitions, we have no desire to acquire nuclear weapons, we don’t want to fight anybody—we’re friends with all our West African neighbours,” he added.

Taking a more futuristic tone, the former senator said Nigeria may even become a safe haven for displaced populations from the West if global tensions escalate.

“There’s going to be a World War III, the rest of the world will be destroyed, and we’ll be happy to welcome Americans, Israelis, and Iranians to Nigeria,” he said, while adding a touch of humour. “And we’ll make sure you all have your visas to come here. We don’t want you to come as immigrants and be treated badly—we’ll treat you well when you visit us in Nigeria.”

Murray-Bruce, who previously served as a senator representing Bayelsa East, concluded by warning that the world is in danger due to the increasing number of unstable leaders in positions of global influence.

“The world is in trouble. There are just too many crazy people in leadership positions across the world,” he declared.

His comments have since drawn mixed reactions online, sparking conversations around geopolitical stability, Nigeria’s global role, and Africa’s positioning in the event of major global conflict.
