President Bola Tinubu has adjusted his official itinerary, postponing his planned visit to Kaduna State in favor of a critical trip to Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, as part of intensified efforts to promote peace and address the prolonged conflict troubling the region.
The visit is aimed at allowing the President to gain firsthand insight into the recurring violence that has claimed numerous lives and caused widespread destruction of property in several communities.
While in Benue, President Tinubu is expected to engage with key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, political figures, religious leaders, community heads, and youth representatives, to explore sustainable solutions to the unrest.
In anticipation of the visit, the President has already sent a high-level delegation to the state. The team includes the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, security intelligence chiefs, the National Security Adviser, and the Senate and House Committee Chairmen on Defence.
A town hall meeting will be held during the visit, providing a platform for open dialogue and collective decision-making among all relevant groups.
President Tinubu, who has repeatedly condemned the violence in Benue, has urged both leaders and residents to embrace peace, unity, and mutual respect. He also extended condolences to families of the victims and those affected by the ongoing crisis.
According to the updated schedule released over the weekend, the President’s previously planned visit to Kaduna State—originally set for Wednesday to commission multiple state projects—has now been moved to Thursday, June 19, 2025.
