Thomas Partey, a former Arsenal midfielder and Ghana international, has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, according to a statement released by the UK’s Metropolitan Police on Friday.
In the official statement, Met Police confirmed:
“A 32-year-old man, Thomas Partey, has been charged following complaints by three separate women. The alleged offences occurred between 2021 and 2022 and follow an investigation by detectives which commenced in February 2022.”
The police clarified that the charges stem from allegations made by three different women, each reporting separate incidents of rape or sexual assault.
Partey, who most recently played for Arsenal Football Club and remains a key figure in Ghana’s national team, has not yet publicly responded to the charges. His legal team is expected to issue a statement ahead of his first court appearance.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has reviewed the case and approved the charges following the completion of the police investigation.
No court date has been announced yet, but authorities indicated that further legal proceedings will follow shortly.
This case marks one of the highest-profile sexual assault charges brought against a Premier League footballer in recent years.
