At least 100 houses were destroyed on Friday night after a heavy downpour ravaged Zogirma village in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Haruna Danmalam, a resident of Bunza, told newsmen that the rainfall lasted for hours and left many residents injured, some with serious wounds.
“The rain was too much. Houses collapsed and many people were injured,” Danmalam said.
Malam Muhammed Umar Mawo, Secretary of Bunza LGA, visited the affected areas on Saturday and conveyed the sympathy of the local government chairman to the victims.
“We will compile a full report of the damage and send it to the state government for action,” Mawo assured.
Meanwhile, in a related disaster, four villages in the Arewa Local Government Area—Tungar Chindo, Tungar Kure, Feske Malabawa, and Feske Rafi—were also submerged by flooding.
Reports indicate that over 60 houses were destroyed and several animals and properties worth hundreds of thousands of naira were lost in the incident.
No official casualties have been confirmed, but local authorities say relief efforts are being coordinated.
