IPOB Dismisses Nigeria’s Terrorism List, Says It Won’t Stop Agitation

 

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has again criticised the Federal Government over its recently released terrorism sponsors list, describing the move as an attempt to discredit its activities and influence public perception.

In a statement issued on April 13, 2026, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said the list does not reflect reality and should not be taken seriously by the international community.

The group, led by Nnamdi Kanu, argued that the publication raises concerns about the criteria used in compiling such a list, insisting that it unfairly targets individuals and groups without proper justification.

IPOB maintained that it is not a violent organisation and reiterated its position as a movement advocating for self-determination through what it described as legitimate means.

The statement also questioned the timing and intent behind the list, suggesting that it may be linked to ongoing political and security tensions in the country, particularly in the South-East.

According to the group, efforts to associate its members with terrorism would not succeed, adding that such claims contradict its stance and activities in countries where it says it operates within the law.

IPOB further stressed that its campaign remains focused on justice, dignity, and the rights of its people, noting that external pressure or labeling would not force it to abandon its cause.

The group concluded by reaffirming that its agitation would continue despite the development, emphasizing that its demands remain unchanged.

The Federal Government has yet to issue an official response to the latest statement from IPOB as of the time of filing this report.
