The Kebbi State Police Command has apprehended two suspects in connection with separate stabbing incidents that resulted in the deaths of their victims in Shanga and Zuru Local Government Areas.
First Incident: Brother Kills Brother
In a statement released by the command's spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, on Friday, January 17, 2025, it was revealed that 25-year-old Yunusa Haruna was arrested for allegedly stabbing his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, to death. The incident occurred on December 31, 2024, in Bakin Turu village, Shanga LGA.
According to the report, Yunusa attacked his brother during an argument, using a sharp knife to fatally wound him. Officers from the Shanga Divisional Police Headquarters responded swiftly, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Second Incident: Man Kills and Injures During Altercation
In another case, Abubakar Umar, 25, was arrested on January 8, 2025, for reportedly stabbing Mohammed Bala in the head during a disagreement in Jarkasa, Zuru LGA. The victim died instantly from the attack.
Umar is also accused of injuring the victim's younger brother, Sama’ila Bala, during the altercation. Police officers from the Zuru Divisional Headquarters promptly detained Umar following the incident.
Police Commissioner Reacts
The Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, condemned the violent acts, expressing deep concern over the rising tendency to resort to violence instead of lawful conflict resolution. He urged Kebbi State residents to report disputes to appropriate authorities to avoid tragic outcomes.
The Commissioner has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to thoroughly investigate both cases. The suspects will face court proceedings once investigations are concluded.
Police Call for Cooperation
The Kebbi State Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order across the state. It called on residents to cooperate with law enforcement by providing credible information to aid in crime prevention and resolution efforts.
