Multiple fierce clashes between Nigerian troops and armed bandits in Niger and Kaduna States have left scores of terrorists dead, alongside casualties among military personnel, the Nigerian Army confirmed on Wednesday.
In a statement posted on its official X handle, the Army Headquarters disclosed that the coordinated counter-operations were carried out in Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka in Niger State, and Aungwan Turai in Chikun Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State.
The statement said the bandits had launched unprovoked attacks on local communities in the affected areas, prompting a swift and forceful response by the Nigerian military’s land and air components.
“Land and air component troops launched several counter-attacks that eliminated scores of bandits in the encounters,” the Army noted.
However, the military did not emerge from the confrontation unscathed.
“Sadly, some gallant warriors paid the supreme price in the day-long battles, while four wounded-in-action troops are currently receiving treatment for their gunshot wounds,” the statement added.
While the total number of casualties was not disclosed, the Army promised to provide additional updates as operations continue.
The development underscores the escalating security challenges across the North-Central and North-West regions, where armed groups have continued to attack rural communities, security forces, and infrastructure.
The military's latest operation is seen as part of ongoing nationwide efforts to degrade bandit networks, restore order, and reassure residents of the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
