Tragedy struck the Lile community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State as unknown gunmen killed the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lade Ward One, Alhaji Abdullahi Shehu Kpotun, and his son in a late-night attack on their residence.

The incident has sparked outrage and grief across the state, drawing strong condemnation from prominent leaders, including former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, who described the killings as “barbaric, painful and unacceptable.”

In a statement issued in Ilorin on Wednesday by his media aide, Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir, Saraki expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss.

“This is a devastating loss. I am heartbroken by the news of the gruesome killing of Alhaji Abdullahi Shehu Kpotun and his son,” Saraki said.
“My thoughts and prayers are with their immediate family and the Patigi community in this difficult time.”

He offered prayers for the peaceful repose of their souls and extended his sympathies to the grieving family and community.

Saraki also used the moment to call on security agencies and the Kwara State Government to take urgent action, stressing the importance of prioritizing the safety of citizens in all parts of the state.

“This rising tide of insecurity in our dear state must not be allowed to continue. Government and security agencies must act swiftly and decisively to prevent further tragedies,” he added.

The tragic killings have once again highlighted the growing security challenges facing rural communities in Kwara North and other parts of Nigeria, as citizens call for immediate and sustained government action.
