The Vice President of Brazil, Geraldo Alckmin, and his wife, Maria Alckmin, touched down in Abuja on Tuesday for the commencement of the Second Session of the Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism (SDM) — a milestone in South-South cooperation between the two global south powerhouses.
The Brazilian delegation was received at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by Nigeria’s Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, and Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole.
Also present were key members of President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, including the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, among others.
According to Akuko – Latest Celebrity News, the high-level diplomatic visit marks a watershed moment in Nigeria’s South-South diplomacy, with expectations high for major policy breakthroughs across agriculture, energy, defence, and culture.
Speaking during the brief reception, Senator Hadejia hailed the visit as a “pivotal moment in Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
“This dialogue mechanism represents our commitment to leveraging South-South partnerships that deliver tangible benefits to our citizens,” he stated.
“Brazil’s expertise in agribusiness, energy transition, and industrial development aligns perfectly with Nigeria’s transformation priorities and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The three-day bilateral summit is set to culminate in the signing of over 30 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across key sectors, including: Defence cooperation, Agricultural technology transfer, Energy collaboration, Cultural exchange programmes
The agreements are expected to bolster Nigeria’s industrial base, improve food security, and strengthen people-to-people ties between Africa’s most populous nation and Latin America’s largest economy.
