[JUST IN]: IPOB Issues Stern Memo, Reasserts Kanu’s Supreme Authority, Warns Against ‘Fake DOS’ Claims

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has released a forceful internal memorandum restating its command structure and dismissing what it described as coordinated attempts to undermine its leadership and messaging.

In the statement signed by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group reaffirmed that its founder and leader, Nnamdi Kanu, remains the undisputed authority within the organisation, stressing that his directives are binding and not subject to debate, reinterpretation, or internal vote.

IPOB explained that its chain of command was intentionally designed from inception to ensure discipline and unity, especially during periods of pressure. The memorandum emphasized that the Directorate of Media and Publicity holds exclusive responsibility for issuing official IPOB statements, warning that any publication not routed through the office of the spokesperson should be treated as unauthorised.

The group further disclosed that Kanu personally appointed members of the Directorate of State (DOS), including appointments made while in detention, which it said clearly demonstrates that leadership authority within IPOB does not lapse under any circumstance. It added that no committee, caucus, or social media grouping has the power to appoint, remove, or speak on behalf of the movement.

Addressing recent developments in Anambra State, IPOB confirmed that the sit-at-home scheduled for Monday, February 2, is a single, non-recurring action, organised in reaction to what it described as intimidation of traders and residents by the administration of Governor Charles Soludo.

The memorandum also rejected claims that some individuals, allegedly posing as DOS representatives, held a private meeting with the Anambra State Government over events at Onitsha Main Market. IPOB stated categorically that such persons neither represent its leader nor have the mandate to negotiate or compromise on behalf of the movement.

Reiterating its ideological stance, IPOB said its leader has consistently aligned with traders, artisans, and other ordinary citizens, noting that no private arrangement or inducement can alter that position.

The statement concluded with a warning to dissenters and impersonators, urging anyone unwilling to operate under Kanu’s leadership to disengage from IPOB rather than fuel confusion within the movement.

“For the avoidance of doubt,” the group said, “the statement on Monday’s sit-at-home was issued solely by the IPOB spokesperson, in line with the directive of our leader.”

The development adds to growing political tension in the South-East as security agencies and economic stakeholders closely monitor the situation ahead of the planned action.
